Imran Khan: Why was the former Pakistan Prime Minister detained?

 Why was Khan detained?

According to the Pakistani government, he was arrested for refusing to cooperate with officials in an ongoing corruption probe.

The case claims that Mr Khan got land as a bribe in exchange for political favors while he was Prime Minister. It centres around a British National Crime Agency inquiry into "laundered" money by Pakistan's richest property magnate, Malik Riaz Hussain.

Mr Hussain is said to have given the land to the Al-Qadir Trust, which was established by Mr Khan's third wife, Bushra Bibi.  Khan, who contested the claims, said that the land was given to charity.

Mr Hussain denied money laundering. However, his stance on the issue of land for favors is unknown - he testified before Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau.
